Earlier this summer someone asked meeee if the MOE-skee-TOES were bad at the moomincabin. Before I could give my usual lengthy but ultimately non-committal answer, Little Cat Z, interrupted with something like, “You are probably asking the wrong person.”

The idea is that I’ve spent my summers in serious mosquito country my entire life and that I am somehow “immune” to them. “Immune” is my word, not the word that was used (which I can’t remember) but, no, mosquitos bother me too. Just not as much, for whatever reason. Some people say it’s blood type? I don’t really believe that. But I dunno. I do know that when I actually get bitten, the bites don’t swell up into big fugly things. They itch for a while (like 10 minutes) and then it’s gone. I do experience a weird “sympathetic” thing where if I have bare feet and ankles, they start to VIBRATE with itchiness even when I have NOT been bitten.

I am a bit “immune” to bad mattresses too. I can sleep on almost anything. Just ask the GG. He was struggling with our Landfill mattress a few years ago and I said something like, “just go out and buy one.” I have no interest in schlepping around to mattress stores, lying on mattresses, and listening to sales pitches. No thank you.

Little Cat Z took over this time. The mattress on the double bed upstairs (the ONLY double bed in the moomincabin) was on its last legs and she ordered one from Casper. Guess what? I knew she was gonna order a mattress but we never once communicated by phone or text or internet about the brand. I have been spammed by Casper mattresses ALL SUMMER. Even before she actually ordered the mattress.

She schlepped the mattress up in Cygnus, hauled it up the ladder, and installed it. I hope it is an improvement. I can’t think why it won’t be. As she engineered it all, she gets to be the first to try it out.
