In which KW is somewhat productive…

New Landfill Chitchen? Not there yet. But inching along, which is better than what I was doing a while back… Today I had the GG take the mug racks off of the sides of the cabinets on either side of the sink. And put up a loverly kaniffie rack. I know these things are a fad and I have a loverly kaniffie block but it takes up counter space. So…

I will be changing the window in front of the sink too, although I will miss this one and all those years of watching Burke out there in whatever he felt comfortable wearing in his back yard (or out in the street, de-icing your ancient Caddy-lac in a pair of undies that show the crack in the back? Okay. Too bad Good thing I didn’t have an iPhone back in those days…) More on that some other day. Anyway, what to do with all those mugs… The four matching stainless steel ones can be somehow integrated into the BB rifle/fishing pole rack down in the Freakout Chamber. Beyond that, I asked the GG to choose the mugs he wanted to keep. He chose two Stone School Nursery Co-op mugs, a Land and Seas Education mug from his trip to the Leelenau Peninsula with 8th graders eons ago, and that gun mug. I saved those, wrapped up some others to save until I dunno what and rearranged the glassware cupboard so that it could accommodate the remaining mugs. Which meant that I packed up some random pieces of glassware too… This may look like a mess to you but it is a definite improvement.

This stuff will no doubt change when I *do* get going. I’m auditioning ideas at this point. And de-cluttering. Always de-cluttering… I know that I do not want a room full of cabinets. I know that open shelving is a “fad” and I know that it isn’t easy to keep things looking de-cluttered with open shelves. But having closed cabinets for everything is too sterile for me. Some of my favorite kitchens in life have had a combination of cabinets and open shelves. I am thinking about just enough cabinets to store food and silverware, etc. And open shelving for all of my china and pottery and glassware and whatever. And maybe the damn pegboard isn’t all that bad, seeing as how Julia Child’s husband set one up for her… … … But we’ll see what I end up doing… Maybe I don’t need a designer? Maybe I just need my brain to get in gear? Is it doing that? Drrrrr. Drrrr. Drrrrr. Maybe? … …
