Better to do this now than xmas morning
It’s xmas time (almost) in the city. And that’s always a good time for things to go wrong. Last year, it was the Friday after turkey day when we realized our furnace wasn’t quiiiiite putting out full heat. We hired somebody to come out. HE WAS REAAAALLLLY GOOD. Got here exactly when he promised and determined that there wasn’t any real problem, except leaves and other detritus were blocking some ducts or whatever. And cleaned it all up. Under the fascinated eye of the GG who was probably figgering how to DIY it the next time…
Today it was clogged plumbing associated with the bathtub. The GG was up to that task, whipping out his snake (*drain* snake, I mean🐽) and the job was done in a jiffy. The culprit? My hair… It needs cutting (long story) but he actually likes my hair long, shaggy, and fugly so I guess he doesn’t mind snaking out the drain every once in a while?
I did not get a pic of today’s operation. This pic of the GG and mouse was taken on XMAS MORNING 2013! We argued about the year a bit. He thought he had snaked the drain in the current (renovated) bathroom. Obviously not. This is the old Blue and Only Bathroom and my brain won. Isn’t this bathroom fugly? Honestly, I could still clean the “porcelain”, etc., but the tile, etc., was beyond cleaning by that time. We limped along with this bathroom for another year and a half and then we gutted it.
He did another wee prodject today but that wasn’t to fix a problem unless you count an oven rice spill a problem. I mean, it is a problem but it’s just a cleaning problem. But. I have been noticing for quite a while how dirty the glass in the oven doors is. I can clean an oven. But I do not have the technical chops to take apart the doors in order to clean the glass and other hard to get at parts. So he took the oven doors apart and cleaned everything. BTW: I found an oven cleaner product that is MUCH better than that Easy-Off oven spray we all grew up with, which is NOT easy-off in my experience.
So, are our appliances, plumbing, and HVAC, etc., ready for the holidays? I’m not holding my breath but we’ll manage. If worse comes to worst, we could stay at one of our kids’ houses. “We have our sleeping bags🤪” Just kidding but the sleeping bag quote relates to a LONG AGO story about Radical Betty and Uncle Dcuk that I should write some day. Or not? We’ll see.

I’ve had several major issues like a bathroom leak (no ceiling in part of my kitchen or master bathroom floor/toilet), and a leaky garbage disposal one year. There appears to be a theme and it’s NOT one I like! My girls clogged up the drains with their hair several times and their dad had to clear it. I helped by gagging over the sight of what looked like a dead animal covered with soap scum.

Well, you could stay here (if need be) or not…
