It’s nice to be a small-time blahgger
Why? Well… Sorta for a lot of reasons. The reason of the moment is that I don’t feel tooooo guilty when I have a week like this week when I am not a very good blog buddy. I mean I am reading your blogs but not commenting much. Why? Well. Because what with keeping *ahead* of the long-suffering cat-herding person and keeping *up* with The Landfill and keeping *track* of The Commander, I am plain plum (plumb?) tuckered out. Psychologically, that is. Keeping track of The Commander alone is, well, I dunno exactly how to describe it but that woman is *cagey*, oh boy oh boy! Sometimes I catch myself thinking, “Oh brother, where art thou?” The Engineer would be MUCH better at keeping track of The Comm than I am. He started doing “octo-checks” way back when the parental units were just barely octogenarians. Me? I was gallivanting around The Planet Ann Arbor running a youth theatre guild and transporting a good portion of its actors in my loverly old Island Teal POC with the flashing light. The octos seemed fine to me back then and I didn’t call all that often. A lot of things have changed since then and I am not always the best daughter but, as luck would have it, The GG gets along famously with The Commander. I think she likes him better than she likes me. 😉 I do miss having the Engineer around.
That top photooo is the front (lake-side) yard at Houghton Lake. I’m not sure what those lighted entities are there in the front yard. Probably something the Uncly Uncle and/or The Beautiful Gay installed. I wanted to go there this weekend but I am here at The Landfill. It is the first weekend in December and I want to at least try to put a Christmas celebration together around here, even though it’ll just be us baggy old grumps and the elegant, sophisticated 20-something daughters we have somehow managed to give life to and not screw up along the way. So I need to do some chores around here and at least try to do a little Christmas shopping.
So… It is midnight madness downtown on The Planet tonight. The stores are open until midnight downtown and I guess there are probably all kinds of sales going on. I’m not going. I find myself without a shopping buddy and I don’t think I could deal with the crowds alone. It’s okay. Like I said, I’m plum taaared. valign was what finally did me in today. I was coding a data table (not to be confused with a layout table) and I used valign=top (I know that valign is a deprecated attribute but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do) and it did not work. Okay. End of day. Time to go. I shouted this out over cube-land and my wonderful co-workers agreed. Well, those who mostly hang out with FORTRAN (yes, it is still out there) may not have understood but they were supportive. I know. Most of y’all don’t understand any of this crap.. 🙂
That bottom photoooo. That’s Stormy Kromer aka the GG in the Courtois Cabin at Houghton Lake, waiting for his other half to return from his new job in Gaylord. Not sure what they’re doing now. Hope they’re having fun. Here’s the Houghton Lake webcam link.
This is really not a rant. I am happily hanging out alone in The Landfill tonight just thinking about life, the universe, and everything.
Love y’all,
Kayak Woman

I like being small time too because I can be more personal! FORTRAN? I remember that from college. I didn’t know it was still around though.

I haven’t found your blog lacking—ever—including this week. Thanks for the webcam link. I see a twin is stoking up for the day’s terror…

Hey Anne… say more about the youth theater guild that you run. As a proud alumnae of Junior Light Opera (JLO), I am a big fan of youth theater and am always excited to hear about instances. If you are interested, see my post… http://www.leftyparent.com/blog/2009/02/01/jlo/
