Fling-a-tron

I flung my ton today. I even noticed someone else around here flinging a few loverly items. I was also prepared to spend beaucoup bucks today. On what? A new couch! No, we are not replacing the Green Couch. Not just yet. The Commander has offered me the couch in the Squatter’s Paradise living room and actually I had already been thinking that it would make a decent replacement for the Green Couch. But the Squatter’s Paradise is not going away yet and we will need that loverly couch to be there for the duration. Where else will I fall asleep over my book iPhone when we are, um, squatting at the Squatter’s Paradise? I am glad that I have her blessing when the time does come.

We have three couches here and we are replacing one of the ones in the Back Room this time and we did go shopping today. I will spare you the gory details. Actually it wasn’t really *all* that bad. The GG got on my nerves by not sticking to the program. Seriously, he was all over the store looking at mattresses and everything else under the sun. And yes, we do need a new mattress but I was overwhelmed enough looking at the couches. Oh, and he was making all kinds of sick jokes. Please. Just don’t. I can’t focus! In all fairness, yer fav-o-rite blahgger got on the GG’s nerves too. How? By having a nano-second attention span (I take things in quickly and yes sometimes that means I miss important details) and by refusing to *sit* on every single blasted couch in the store to see if it was comfortable. (And working on the NYTimes xword.) I dunno why but I don’t need a couch (or bed or whatever) to be just perfect. In fact, when it comes to buying a mattress, I only have one requirement and that is that I don’t have to jump off the bed onto the floor when I need to visit the Blue and Only Bathroom at that batscope hour of the night. Other than that, the GG can go pick out whatever mattress he wants. I do not really care. I have slept on a full gamut of mattresses in my life and also couches, floors, and the beach. On the rare occasions I have trouble sleeping the cause is almost always something like ambient temperature, illness, too much caffeine, tornado warnings, or the (thankfully) occasional bout of garden variety insomnia. Mattress? Not an issue. Oh, I am not crazy about those blow-up air mattresses. Why bother?

The GG and I have a long history of indecision on these kinds of purchases and even though I *promised* myself that I would do whatever I could not to drag it out this time, in the end we left empty-handed. But we did find some couches that we liked thought we could live with and we aren’t finished. We came home and (duh) measured the existing couches in the Back Room and DE-CLUTTERED (because I had a moment of absolute PANIC!) and I am taking a bit of thinking time…

New couches are exciting, but it’s hard to get rid of any old couches these days. No one wants them! I hate taking them to the dump. I don’t like making big decisions either. We sleep on a waterbed which we love, but it’s getting increasingly difficult to find parts. So, when this heater or bladder goes out we may have to look at a traditional mattress. The price of them are OUTRAGEOUS!!

When we went looking for couches (two, on two separated occasions, separated by years) we made it easier by looking at the “value couches”, or some such designation. They had a dozen or less couch styles, and maybe 30 or 40 fabrics. It made our choices much easier. You know how I would have drooled over the 2,000 fabrics in the whole store.

But if you can fling a couch – it would be a BIG FLING.
(I am glad to see there is someone else out there still using a waterbed. Our frame is from 1982 or so, the only one we have ever had.)

And the picture of the books? Did I miss the explanation for that? It’s a beautiful picture by the way. You can take all three of the couches out of my house and replace them with books and I’d be very happy. (Although couches and books DO go together very nicely….)

I have heard good things about the mattresses at IKEA. (no really! from multiple people!) and I recently bought a couch there as well. for couches you can browse their website first to narrow it down…. and of course, the price is nice.
