Retail therapy in the thriving northern metropolis of Gaylord

In the first place, when I got up this morning, I noticed there was an operating system upgrade for my iPhone. I was waiting for the GG to get up so we could head north to Houghton Lake, so I downloaded and installed the upgrade. When we finally did get on the road at about 7:15 or so, I realized that I was on the *4G* network! I have never seen the 4G network before and I wasn’t even sure it existed except in theory. I was ecstatic and it was all cool until we got north of Bay City and then we were back on The Edge again…

Anyway, at about that time, the UU started texting “come on up to Gaylord” and, do you know, it didn’t take much to convince us. We dropped the monstrous old Houghton Lake TV set (from the 1970s) off at Houghton Lake [don’t ask] and headed up to hang out with Bob [the UU] and The Beautiful Gay. On Bob White Way in Gaylord. Yes, really.

I didn’t know what to expect out of today, I just knew that I wanted to spend time with friends. Beyond that I had vague visions of walking around exploring this wooded resort development. Shopping was about the furthest thing on my mind. But TBG wanted to look at furniture and I felt like going with the flow, so we loaded into the Frog Hopper and drove up into Gaylord proper. We never did find an actual furniture store but lo and behold, the two blocks or so of main street Gaylord are *loaded* with antique/art/clothing shops of all description. When did this happen? The last time I looked, there wasn’t much going on along Gaylord’s main drag. The Sugar Bowl restaurant, a truly excellent establishment that I remember from *my* childhood, maybe an outfitter, one decent bookstore, and I don’t remember what else. Lawyers’ offices and things.

Today, we spent a couple hours shopping and having a GREAT time! I even saw a few things that I wanted to buy so badly it just about hurt to walk away from them. But I am de-hoarding… Still, I didn’t come away unscathed. My first purchase was a birdhouse! We used to collect birdhouses but this one was not for us. I winked at the shop owner and said, “I am de-hoarding my own house but I can buy something for somebody else…” But then. I did find something for me. A black skirt with sequins sprinkled on it. I have a few of those but they are getting old. This one had my name on it. The GG may think that he is the only person who didn’t succumb to consumerism today but he seems to be forgetting a certain $34 item at the Grayling Glen’s this morning…

And then, on the way back to Bob White Way, we went to Disney World. Or actually, a place better than Disney World. Where we met the loverly aminals in the photoooo. Sure wouldn’t want one o’ these fellas (or gals) to hit my vee-hickle…

What fun to go shopping and enjoy it as much as you did! I love touristy shopping, but despise shopping for clothes for myself. Or gifts for others since I am an expert on dithering. Those animals are impressive!!
