Tu tu tu looking out my back door

ypsi3I needed a field trip today and so I hung out with Mouse for a few hours over in her new (since July) apartment in Ypsilanti. Please humor me here. The first syllable of Ypsilanti is pronounced “Ip”, not “Yip”. Man oh man, when I was a child, The Commander would have a hissy fit when anyone pronounced Ypsilanti wrong. Ypsilanti is only a few miles away from The Planet Ann Arbor but in all the years I have lived on the planet I have spent almost no time there. I have been to Haab’s restaurant and the Riverside Theatre when Mouse has been in plays there. And the Sidetrack Saloon a couple times for work functions.

Today, I drove over to Ypsilanti to Mouse’s new apartment and we walked through town to find a place to eat lunch. We ended up at Ollie’s Cafe and it was wonderful. And then we walked back through the parks that surround the Huron River there to her apartment. It was a beautiful day but we were cold and/or hot, depending upon whether we were in sun or shadow. It was that kind of day. I hung out at Mouse’s for a while but I was sleepier than I wanted to be and we both had things to do, so eventually I schlepped back over to The Planet. I walked over to the Plum Market and packed a few more things up for the Kiwanis Thrift Shop and then I sat in the back yard for a wee bit. It won’t be long until the backyard is frozen solid and sitting out there will not be pleasant. Mouse’s new place reminds me of the place she lived in over in kzoo after study abroad in Dakar and then senior year. We used to go over there to see plays that she was involved in. We would pick her up for breakfast and then we would hang out (and the GG would snooze) in her apartment before the play. I miss those days. Her Ypsi place is *much* bigger but has the same Mouse kind of spirit.

So here’s Creedence singing that looking out my back door song. I like Creedence but this was never my fave song of theirs but I do love hanging out in my back yard. There’s probably an ad. I’m sorry.

Actually…I think the kitchen is the only part that’s bigger! But yes, it has a similar feel. 🙂

I can’t be sure, but we ate somewhere near the tracks in Y-town several years back (only time I think I’ve eaten there), I think the map-location says Frenchies.

Frenchies was a subset of Sidetrack’s, and they have now permanently merged! I’m having trouble keeping up with all the recent changes here.

This reminds me that I still need to get over to visit Alison in her apartment; I’ve been there before, but now she has a couch I can sit on. Much more comfortable!
