The hills are alive
Actually that would be the *forest* is alive. It was alive this morning but not with the sound of music (or even birds) but the next door cousins at the Old Cabin entertained a roofing contractor who came out to fix a leak next to their big stone chimney. I love when it is so calm here on the Shores of Gitchee Gumee that I can actually sing out my half of a conversation to my cousins. And hear our lifelong friend Brigid’s laugh from *her* family’s Old Cabin on the other side of *our* Old Cabin. And my cousin Judd yelling from his house on the *other* side of us for his family’s dog to come home. Often but not always the dog is in my back yard.
The Old Cabin cousins are going full-tilt boogie at fixer-upper prodjects during their latest sojourn here. This makes up for their last trip, one that involved multiple trips to the urgent care due to a day care bug gone wild.
I did laundry at the Up North this morning and I can’t believe how annoyed I was that a couple of perfectly nice women (sisters, I’m guessing) were occupying My Corner of the laundromat. A goose family crossed the road on my way to the recycle (and home) and I got a pic of that but I like the one I posted today better.
Another Old Cabin prodject was to fix the steps to the sleeping porch, which is still a sleeping porch but also supports fancy dining, etc. I’ll write (probably again) about the sleeping porch some other day. Anyway Le Marquis engineered this prodject. The GG, who, if there is not chainsawing to do, cannot turn down a construction prodject, made his way over there to help. Both Le Marquis and the GG are adept at this kind of stuff but thanks to my brother the automotive engineer, we have more tools because we have the moomingarage, in which we have space to store tools. And chainsaws, botes, motors, license plates, Iitala glassware, and other stuff.
So this is the finished product and although I don’t normally post pictures of people, I love this pic, taken by the GG. Le Marquis is rightly proud of the new steps and if I may say so, he looks a lot like his handsome (late) dad in this pic.

Lots of important work is getting done! Is that Jay’s cabin with the leaky chimney? It looked like there was black mold there. Houses and cabins are money pits! It’s fortunate you have so many handy people in your family.

The contractors were looking g at the kitchen floor/mold problem. When they mentioned they had worked on the roof of the nearby Reed house, at the top of the Green Tunnel Road we mentioned the leak by the wood stove pipe. And they promptly climbed up and put some caulking/tar (not sure what) on a joint that had separated.
